Woody's Restaurant Review:
Hartford doesn't have its own hot dog style like Chicago, but it does have Woody's. Owners Gary and Cindy Wood began the business small with a vending truck in 1977. Now, the enterprise thrives in its permanent location, where walls --- especially in the Fish Tank bar --- are loaded with memorabilia celebrating the Woods' home team: the Miami Dolphins. Although hours are limited, Woody's caters to those who hunger by day for foot-long, all-beef hot dogs (and their kin, sausage and kielbasa) topped every which way and served on buttery toasted buns. Try a Dog Father tucked in its bun with peppers, mozzarella and marinara sauce; a hot chihuahua that will start your eyes watering; or the deputy dog enshrouded in pulled pork and cheddar. The menu also provides for those who have had their fill of dogs: grilled cheese sandwiches, fish 'n' chips and Cajun fries are among the caloric indulgences. Bring cash; they don't take credit cards.
