THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Mercadito Restaurant Review:
Mercadito means "little market," and this eatery from chef/partner Patricio Sandoval serves an assortment of shareable dishes. This Las Vegas location joins two others in New York City and one in Chicago, and is decked out with dark-wood flooring, red- and cream-hued brick walls, and a classy marble bar top. Begin with one of the guacamoles: traditional, mango or bacon. Continue with the shrimp ceviche, a blend of pico de gallo, pineapple, jícama and lemon-chile guajillo broth; or the Mexican salad with corn, hard-boiled egg, black beans, pico de gallo and queso fresco vinaigrette. Expect to find tacos --- but the best ones are on the un-printed secret menu, like the Chilean sea bass with smoked yams, watercress, jícama and a tamarind slaw, and the surf and turf with rib-eye, tempura lemon shrimp and chipotle hash. Large plates include chile relleno, carne asada and enchiladas. You may finish with the spiced flourless chocolate cake with caramel bananas. Accompanying the Mexican cuisine are more than 80 tequilas, or go for one of the draft margaritas, to which you can add smoke, heat or fruit.
