Miyake Restaurant Review:

It's tempting to dismiss Miyake. The sushi menu features too many too cute references to Apple, IBM and Hewlett-Packard. There's even a salmon-and-asparagus hand roll named after Stanford's own Chelsea Clinton. On most nights Japanese pop music blares, disco lights spin and an intermittent fog machine does its inexplicable thing. But gimmicks aside, Miyake is an excellent sushi bar. The orange roughy nigiri is almost ethereal-eating it is more like breathing than eating. Kurumi ume is a delightful combination of walnuts and plum sauce, and the sweet black mushrooms and soft avocado in the cat's roll are perfect foils to the crunchy cucumber. Also located at 10650 S. DeAnza Blvd., Cupertino, 408-253-2668.
