Modo Mio Rustic Italian Kitchen Restaurant Review:

Owner Gian Franco Bertolino has re-created Northern Italian specialties for his health-conscious Newport Coast neighbors by preparing this filling cuisine without butter or cream. Situated in the upscale Crystal Cove Promenade, Modo Mio Rustic Italian Kitchen has a warm, inviting family atmosphere. What sets this shopping center restaurant apart from others of its ilk is the quality of ingredients that go into the simple fare. This detail is fleshed out quite nicely in the abundant antipasti offerings. For mains, free-range chicken, beef and fresh seafood are the basis for everything. Pasta is made in-house. Some come here for the pappardelle with braised short rib or the gnocchi in tomato pesto. There’s also a good selection of beer and wines by the glass. The lunch menu is very similar to the dinner menu, although there’s an easygoing prix-fixe lunch special paired with a glass of wine. This venue has a sister location in Pacific Palisades.
