Mofongos Comida Caribena Restaurant Review:
One of the very few authentic Puerto Rican restaurants in L.A., Mofongo offers a handful of tables---each with a Puerto Rican flag proudly displayed through a clear plastic tablecloth---in a tiny saffron-colored room. A massive photograph of Manhattan’s Flatiron Building dominates the art. Dominating the menu is mofongo, a garlicky plantain mash laced with pork crackling. It comes topped with chicken, beef or shrimp, and can be a little addictive. Other entrées include pernil, a tender pork roast served with topnotch black beans studded with chunks of plantains. In addition to flan and Puerto Rican bread pudding, the kitchen turns out a very respectable Key lime pie.
