THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Molina’s Cantina Restaurant Review:
Three generations after Raul Molina opened one of the first Tex-Mex eateries in Houston his grandkids have not only carried on the tradition but also established this Molina’s in the hot Washington Avenue corridor. Sit on the deck beneath the thatched palm roof palapa and sip margaritas while digging into a big bowl of the legendary Jose’s dip---creamy queso heaped with spicy taco meat. The food, a blend of the family’s recipes from Mexico, includes mole sauce and enchilada gravy and the cheesy Tex-Mex faves the city has craved since the ’40s. Both the chips and salsa and escabeche are complimentary and the traditional combo plates of crispy tacos stuffed with lettuce, tomato and grated cheddar and seafood plates with fluffy Spanish rice and refried beans are legendary in Houston.
