Morimoto Las Vegas Restaurant Review:
Décor at celebrity chef Masaharu Morimoto’s restaurant at MGM Grand Hotel & Casino pays homage to his homeland of Japan, with Japanese artwork, photographs, sculptures, paintings and a cherry blossom wall. We suggest beginning your experience at the sushi bar, where you can partake in a wide range of fresh seafood, all of which are flown in daily from around the world, such as fatty tuna from Spain, salmon from Canada and red snapper from Japan. Continue with American Wagyu beef carpaccio with ginger, sweet garlic and yuzu soy; steamed oyster with seared foie gras and house-made teriyaki; and kakuni, 10-hour braised pork belly with scallop-infused rice congee. Moving on to the teppan table, a pleasant surprise is bouillabaisse with grilled shrimp, crab, fish and scallop added to broth steamed on the grill in a bag made of fata paper. Other grilled treasures are whole lobster masala and marbled Snake River Farm 8-oz rib-eye. But the ultimate taste experience belongs to the Japanese A5 sukiyaki with a soft poached egg for a decadent mix of protein and richness. Complementing the fare are beer and sake contract-brewed for Morimoto, such as Morimoto Hazelnut Ale and Junmai Ginjo Sake, and fine wine like the Hill Family Estate Stewart Ranch Albariño, of which only 300 cases were produced and purchased by Morimoto. For a pyrotechnic finish, try the fiery chocolate tart: marshmallow, salty caramel ganache, dark chocolate sorbet and spiced rum that is ignited when served.
