THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Mud Hen Tavern Restaurant Review:
After a few years operating the global small plates spot Susan Feniger's STREET, chef Susan Feniger (Border Grill) and partner Kajsa Alger turned the space into Mud Hen Tavern. The redone dining room and bar area, which features reclaimed wood, booths and communal tables, gives way to an ample outdoor patio. Diners can expect simple gastropub fare like salads (watercress, grapefruit and avocado, for example), pizzas, sandwiches and entrées like fish and chips. (Symbols on the menus point out which dishes are vegan, as well as which items the kitchen will modify to be vegan.) The Hangover Burger is made with organic grass-fed beef topped with cheddar, bacon, lettuce, tomato and a fried egg on a brioche bun. STREET fans can still find the kaya toast, the Singaporean snack of grilled toast filled with coconut jam to dip in a sunny side-up egg. Choose from a short wine list and a selection of specialty cocktails plus local craft beers on tap. Mud Hen Tavern also offers weekend brunch (with limitless sparkling cocktails available for an additional $15 per person), two happy hours (Mon.-Fri., 5 p.m.-7 p.m.; Sun.-Thurs. 10 p.m.-12 a.m., Fri.-Sat. 11 p.m.-1 a.m.) and picnic boxes for pick-up in the summer.
