MXDC Cocina Mexicana Restaurant Review:
Todd English returned to DC with this Mexican-based restaurant in the middle of busy downtown. A multi-level setting with stone walls that let sound reverberate everywhere, the place has become a hotspot with midday crowds crammed into every corner. The menu features fairly standard eats, though the lobster and corn guacamole with fresh chips is outstanding. Other items will sound familiar, from tacos and quesadillas to burrito bowls and entrées of enchiladas, grilled steak and a solitary chile relleno. A great taco? Pork belly with pickled red onions. Not surprisingly, the drinks list includes assorted margaritas, palomas, beers, Mexican sodas, whacky cocktails (Pyrat's Cove blends Pyrat XO rum, soda, hibiscus and lime) and a limited selection of wines from Latin countries. Desserts bring such treats as mango ice cream and churros.
