Nabolom Bakery Restaurant Review:
A fresh-start, spruced-up Nabolom has risen in the same Elmwood location the original collective baked and served for 40 years. Julia Elliott (Cheese Board Collective, Tante's) and Sabra Stepak, lifelong friends, salvaged the neighborhood bakery. Together they work day and night to resurrect the bakery they remember from their childhoods with the support of Berkeley customers and the help of a friendly, home-grown staff. Classic Nabolom pastries from 1980s recipe archives are improved upon by reigning baker Sasha Crehan (Sweet Adeline Bakery). Croissants, cinnamon twists, cheese danishes, muffins, scones, cookies and holiday sweets are served up to please. Fair trade McLaughlin coffee drinks are offered with morning pastries. Pizza of the day by the slice or whole/half pies available at lunch (11:30 a.m.-2 p.m.) and for an early dinner (4:30 p.m.-7 p.m.).
