THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED New World Bistro Restaurant Review:
Restaurateur Joseph Fisher breezed in from Marthas Vineyard on a mission: to teach Kansas Citians how to eat, to drink and to live in the moment. Some scoffed, until they ate the food. The marriage of Fishers island proclivities and executive chef Noy Phoumivongs Laotian heritage is thriving. Fisher turns diners away on weekends, but tables are available on weekdays. For appetizers, we recommend the dumplings, two steamed and two fried and ever changing. Fillings have included chopped Chinese sausage; hard-boiled quail egg; shrimp and fresh coconut. Other appetizers, including the mixed tempura, (yellowfin tuna, shrimp and zucchini-wrapped salmon), and the roasted fennel and tomato salad with an orange-thyme dressing are solid hits. Signature entrées are a filet mignon with a Szechwan peppercorn sauce and Fishers version of cioppino: a whole Maine lobster and jumbo shrimp with a risotto crabcake lounging in a hearty tomato broth. The sashimi duck, encrusted with spices and green tea then splayed over soba noodles in a sturdy mushroom broth, is another must-try option. Best desserts bets include blueberry bread pudding and a coconut-apricot cheesecake.
