THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Notting Hill Kitchen Restaurant Review:
Portuguese cooking is not well represented in London, so this restaurant is quite welcome. There’s a bar for tapas and drinks, then different interconnected rooms decorated in cool pastel shades. Chef Luis Baena’s kitchen delivers starters like sea bass ceviche as well as toasted sourdough with pata negra ham, bone marrow, and cured papada with a truffled yoke. Mains are divided into land and sea; try the unusual combinations of pork with potato and roasted garlic puddings; or a mini lamb burger coming with a chickpea dip and pumpkin seeds. Portugal, with its long seacoast, has a reputation for seafood, and you’re not disappointed here with the likes of monkfish and crisp vegetable tempura with a rice galette and curried apple, or octopus prepared a la plancha with asparagus, fennel and potato purée, pineapple butter and a crumble of buttered Portuguese manioc flour. Finish with a lemon cheesecake or white chocolate mousse with a toffee parfait. There’s a good brunch menu; an imaginative, mainly Iberian wine list; and friendly, welcoming service.
