Old Homestead Restaurant Restaurant Review:
Old Homestead is one of the oldest and most atmospheric of New York's steakhouses. Established in 1868, it retains a decidedly old-world aura, from the cow perched atop the awning to the townhouse setting that existed long before the Meatpacking District became a trendy dining destination. The portions are huge, from large lobsters to a porterhouse steak for two that weighs about as much as a standard dictionary. Vegetables, desserts, wines and service are somewhat incidental; it's the charm of visiting an old-time restaurant in an out-of-the-way location that continues to be the real draw here.
