Comforting Georgian fare in a cozy Greenwich Village space.
Old Tbilisi Garden Restaurant Review:
Run by a Georgian couple who had a similar establishment in Gravesend, Brooklyn, this Greenwich Village spot is one of only a few Georgian restaurants in Manhattan. Service can be a tad indifferent but don’t let that stop you from enjoying some hearty food. Start with khinkali, not too different from a big version of a Chinese soup dumpling. And don’t skip out on the adjaruli khachapuri, a football-size piece of bread baked with cheese in the middle, and as a final flourish, a raw egg stirred into the cheese. It’s one of the most comforting and satisfying dishes you’ll eat that week. Eggplant-braised lamb is also a winner. Wine is Georgian, naturally, and there are decently priced bottles and offerings by the glass.
