Omar's Carriage House Restaurant Review:
This former carriage house, owned and run by Omar Boukhriss, is a historic building site in Norfolk. While the specials on the menu change with the seasons, some retain Moroccan accents. The poached eggs in chermoula with potatoes is a brunch winner, as are the classics: shrimp and grits and omelets. For dinner, we recommend citrus glazed duck breast with garlic roasted Brussels sprouts; grilled pork tenderloin with honey sage butter; or scallion ginger tuna with white bean purée and spicy peanut sauce. On Monday nights, look for the Moroccan menu that features chicken or lamb tagine, kebabs and stuffed trout (complete with head and tail) over couscous. Ongoing wine dinners are a special delight, and the desserts are some of the nicest in town with chilled lemon soufflé and strawberry whip cake among the selection. Service is friendly and attentive in this cozy restaurant, with its cheerful slip-covered chairs, multi-patterned serviettes and fresh flowers on every table.
