Orient-Express Cocktail Bar Restaurant Review:
All aboard. Step into this quaint cocktail bar in the West Village that serves up small plates in an atmosphere meant to evoke---you guessed it---old-timey train travel. In fact, as the name suggests, it focuses on one train line in particular: the old Orient Express which traveled from Paris to Istanbul. It’s no surprise that the cocktails and dishes are meant to evoke the cultures and countries on the old line. One of our favorite drinks, the Nagelmackers, blends rum, port, rye and bitters in an absinthe-splashed cup. The small plates are no different: there’s a Hungarian sausage atop sweet kraut, Mediterranean vegetable stew, and chicken tarragon, cooked in a stew of broccoli, garlic and white wine. The wine selection, naturally, includes bottles from France, Hungary and Italy. But do save room for the final destination: Turkish coffee crème brûlée.
