THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Ovo Cafe Restaurant Review:
As part of a slow but steady revitalization of this part of downtown St. Petersburg, the Ovo is almost a clone of its older Ybor City (Tampa) cousin. The emphasis is clearly on clean cuisine---serving fresh food that is boiled or baked---never microwaved or fried. Among the perennial favorites are such items as the three trips to heaven olive spread served on fresh sourdough bread, Chinese chicken salad with mandarin oranges and Oriental sweet-and-sour dressing, and our favorites---pierogies, Polish pasta pockets filled with whipped potatoes and tossed with everything from spicy chicken and black beans to Italian ham and fresh basil. We also like the waffles to something as whimsical as St. Petersburg Pizza (perhaps the only such entrée ever so named): spinach, chicken, artichokes and capers along with feta, mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses along with roasted garlic and fresh basil.
