THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED A.P. Stumps Chop House Restaurant Review:
Located in a historic building with a look that blends traditional elegance with contemporary character, the menu at this upscale steakhouse focuses on American cuisine and mostly meat. The décor features pressed-tin ceilings, crown moldings and rich woodwork, and no expense has been spared on materials---etched glass, bird's-eye and heartwood cabinetry, and tortoise-shell blown-glass chandeliers. Chef-partner Jim Stump smokes his own salmon, glazes pork chops with molasses, and crusts venison with peppercorns. Steaks are your best bet, although on several visits temperature was inconsistent, arriving medium when we asked for medium rare. The more than 200-item wine list includes tantalizing choices by the glass, more than 20 sparklers and a large selection of Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs and Cabernets. Service is friendly and proficient. Though the food is not groundbreaking, A.P. Stumps is a good place to grab a bite before a San Jose Sharks game.
