Pacific Hideaway Restaurant Review:
Perched on the second floor of the Kimpton Shorebreak Hotel, this restaurant is technically located along The Strand in downtown Huntington Beach. Yet its elevated locale and relaxed, airy space feels miles away from Main Street’s rowdy din. The light blue and dark orange color scheme, the smattering of front porch/patio furniture, and outdoor balcony result in a sly Coastal Carolina if not Caribbean ambience, providing a unique spin on the nearby beach scene --- not to mention a nice spot for a craft cocktail. Adding to the experience is a globally inspired contemporary menu that draws heavy influence from Latin American and especially Asian flavors. The motifs shine throughout the compact lineup, whether it’s straightforward fare like the short rib tacos with kimchi and the Thai coconut soup or more advanced share plates such as the house-made Laos sausage served with crispy sticky rice. Generous mains have included Korean chili-rubbed rib-eye and coconut citrus brined half-chicken. For dessert, the dark chocolate budino is a must. The post-surf crowd can swing by each morning and dig into brunch items, perhaps the massive avocado and blue lump crab toast.
