Panxa Cocina
New Mexican cuisine and more at this neighborhood eatery in Long Beach.
Panxa Cocina Restaurant Review:
Located in the corner spot long occupied by Christy’s, this neighborhood joint connects with its surroundings rather well through large windows and an open interior. A New Mexican aesthetic highlights flourishes of turquoise and desert-influenced artwork. This link sets the stage to create a dining concept that brings the uniqueness of Southwestern cuisine to Long Beach. Classic dishes such as layered enchiladas and Navajo tacos are available. These selections share menu space with entrées that cull inspiration from Mexico, South America and the U.S., from crispy chicken skin with chile piquin salsa and shrimp escabeche to chicken diablo with black beans and seasonal whole grilled fish served with creamy poblano and frybread. Be sure to save room for dessert, as items like the house-made pine nut ice cream and the New Mexican treat sopapillas (pillowy, slightly sweet puffs of dough served with honey) are worth the indulgence. The bar program keeps in step by featuring several tequila- and mezcal-based cocktails, along with a nice array of beer and wine.
