Papa Cristo's Restaurant Review:
True, it has little of the romance of the island of Mykonos, but Papa Cristo's offers three lamb chops with roasted potatoes, a Greek salad and fluffy house-made pita all for a reasonable price, which is why this order-at-the-counter taverna is such a draw. We savor the massive plates of highly seasoned, garlicky gyros served with cool tzatziki, flaky spanakopita (spinach pies) and moist chicken kebabs. Chrys Chrys, the taverna’s vivacious owner, and his cousin, Mark Yordon, operate this sprawling Byzantine-Latino District establishment, which hosts a massive dining room and a market stocked with Greek imports. Other popular dishes include filet of sole oven-baked in paper, whole grilled tilapia, hearty lentil soup, and pizzas made with pita and topped with feta cheese, oregano and olive oil, along with chicken, shrimp or lamb. Don’t miss the first-rate baklava or the citrus-tinted melomakarona (walnut-cinnamon cookies).
