Park's Bar-B-Q Restaurant Review:
The façade of this Koreatown restaurant, sporting massive pictures of raw beef, leaves little doubt what to expect. Décor is limited to celebrity photos and stainless steel hoods to extract smoke from tabletop charcoal grills. USDA Prime beef like skirt steak, rib-eye, and seasoned or unseasoned short ribs, either on or off the bone, highlights the menu. With a soy marinade, the thin-sliced short ribs develop a caramelized crust, locking in the juices. A waitress controls the grilling process, which produces a tantalizing sizzle and aroma. Meats are served with traditional accompaniments: wrap-able romaine leaves, chili-blended fermented bean paste and a jalapeño-spiked dipping sauce. Seafood "rice in hot stone pot," aka bibimbap, features piles of bay shrimp, smelt eggs, mushrooms, kidney beans, seaweed, lettuce and radishes. The ingredients are mixed and cooked until a crunchy rice crust forms. Seafood dishes include spicy black cod and pan-fried mackerel. No matter what you order, expect exemplary banchan --- complimentary dishes --- from a pool of more than a dozen available options. We especially enjoy the chile-slathered shrimp and crispy fried seaweed. To drink, there's beer and wine, plus Korean spirits like soju and sansachun. Fresh oranges are available for dessert in the evening.
