Pho Cafe Restaurant Review:
Giant steaming bowls of pho---Vietnamese rice noodle soup---are the claim to fame at this mini-mall storefront. That and reasonable prices. The décor is minimalist: concrete floors, white walls with clear globe lamps over each table. The vegetarian pho option comes with tasty tofu and mushrooms, while others feature everything from beef and meatballs to tendon and tripe. All come with a side bowl of spicy sauce to pour in---do so judiciously---and a plate of lime segments, jalapeño peppers and sprouts. Additionally, each table holds a plate with soy, hoisin, chili-garlic and fish sauces. Assorted egg roll-type dishes, from vegetarian to charbroiled lemon grass steak, are available as appetizers. Much like their Thai counterparts, Vietnamese iced coffee and tea are potent and cooling. Beer and saké are available, and either might help quench the fire if you overdo it with the hot sauces.
