Bukhara Restaurant Review:
Bukhara looks like a cross between the narrow curry shops of London and a Pottery Barn showroom. Hand-woven rugs are strewn about; the restaurant is dimly lit with exposed brick walls and gold statues; and rustic plate-ware shine everywhere. The menu straddles a middle ground between authentic and Americanized dishes. Start with meat samosas stuffed with lamb and spices, or crispy vegetable pakoras deep-fried in chickpea batter. Classic preparations include tandoori, tikka masala and vindaloo, while lamb served ten different ways is a regional specialty. The mango basil chicken and sweet and sour lychee shrimp are standouts. Be sure to order a side of naan to soak up all of the sauces. Finish with sweet rasmalai cheese patties cooked with pistachios and rosewater. The kitchen (and service staff) acquits itself more admirably when the place isn’t packed, notably less so when it is; that goes double for the lunch buffet.
