Dreamland Bar-B-Que Restaurant Review:
Tuscaloosa’s Dreamland may favor the traditional, but the Birmingham location likes to try out new menu items. More modern and newer than its Tuscaloosa parent, this outpost features lots of memorabilia, “Go 'Bama” nostalgia, and a pair of brick-lined open-hearth pits. Want some barbecue onion dip along with house-made barbecue chips? How about some Big Daddy nachos or a smokehouse Cobb salad or Brunswick stew? Coming right up. The famous ribs still come in four-bone sandwiches, half-slab and full-slab portions, along with a boneless rib wrap. Chicken offers an alternative to pork with a half-chicken plate, a barbecue chicken ranch wrap and two versions of wings. Spicy sausages will also make a hearty meal. Sides include french fries, macaroni ‘n’ cheese, potato salad, baked beans and coleslaw. Chocolate Dream, a pudding with Oreos and whipped cream topping, offers another sweet finish, but may have a tough time knocking the creamy homemade banana pudding off the top perch. Craft beers are available, with local beers such as Good People. Those not in shouting distance of one of the restaurants can have the ribs shipped by UPS.
