THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Katsuya Glendale Restaurant Review:
Preceded by the reputation of its LA siblings, Katsuya Glendale is a success from the get-go. (And, let's be honest, there aren't too many hip restaurants in the area.) Between the food, the cocktails, the location and the décor, it's easy to understand why. Set on the elegant plaza of The Americana at Brand shopping center, it occupies two floors linked by a majestic, black helical staircase. The restaurant was designed by Philippe Starck (as were the other locations), who did a great job transforming the huge space and terraces into a definitively vibrant venue. His signature is on all the details, from the white plastic chairs to the Napoléon III mirrors. A brand new set of pictures adorns the walls: the lady's face is more charming and soothing. Of course, sushi, sashimi and rolls, all very fresh, are the main attractions, with more than 60 choices. Some of our favorites are the salmon with caviar sushi, the halibut with yuzu pepper and the signature crispy rice with spicy tuna. There are actually as many other options to satisfy your appetite, such as the spicy tuna salad, saké-steamed asari clam, herb-crusted seared tuna with mustard sauce, miso soup, udon noodles, and tempura seared crispy salmon for appetizers. Other warm dishes can be miso marinated black cod, lobster dynamite, tonkotsu-styled pork ramen, and a half-pound K Burger with the chef’s special spicy creamy sauce. Desserts are more Western influenced with mascarpone cheesecake, a crème brûlée trio, and a chocolate cake. The wine list is short with mostly California wines, and includes a nice selection of sakés. Sit and relax in the lobby if you have to wait for your table; the efficient staff will see that the wait isn't too long.
