THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Picnics at Allen's Drugstore Restaurant Review:
This 50s-style luncheonette, complete with long counter and booths, is located inside the old-fashioned Allens Drugstore, which has anchored the corner of Red and Bird Roads since 1948. Combinations of pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage and home fries, along with Southern grits and biscuits with sausage gravy are hearty breakfasts. For lunch and dinner, big bowls of spicy chili, thick half-pound burgers, tuna melts, BLTs and blue-plate specials please the neighborhood crowd. Down-home desserts include blueberry pie and an exceptional banana pudding. Prices are 50s-like too. The most expensive item on the menu is a 10-ounce T-bone dinner for just $7.99.
