Pizzicotto Restaurant Review:
Pizzicotto offers a quick fix of Italian hospitality and cuisine along San Vicente Boulevard’s restaurant row. Take a seat in the loft dining room, order a bottle of wine from the reasonably priced Cal-Italian list, and enjoy the value-driven café. Starters include pesto-stuffed ravioli in a chicken broth; a spinach salad mixed with crispy pancetta, pine nuts and aged balsamic; and a traditional caprese. Pastas are highlighted by vegetable lasagna layered with spinach, eggplant and broccoli, or more upscale options such as tortellini filled with porcini mushrooms in an herb-cream sauce and ravioli stuffed with lobster in a light brandy-tomato sauce. There are also plenty of risottos. Pizzas are thin crust and topped with the likes of smoked prosciutto, baby arugula and tomatoes. Sophisticated secondi include whitefish in a pistachio and horseradish crust with a garlic-lemon topping. For dessert, go for the profiteroles, or perhaps the torta della nonna, otherwise known as almond tart.
