P'tit Soleil Restaurant Review:
While next door Soleil serves up traditional French fare, its sibling P’tit Soleil gives some northern exposure to a dynamic menu of French-Canadian bistro cooking. The star of the menu is poutine --- the quintessential Quebecois dish. Owner Luc Alarie has invented ten gourmet versions of poutine, all with golden shoestring fries, cheese curds and “gravies” ranging from Cognac peppercorn to spicy harissa cream sauce. Toppings include filet mignon, Merguez sausage, and chicken and peas. The poutines are a good match for the lengthy beer list, which is crowned by a solid selection of Canadian brews. Interesting, shareable French-Canadian small plates include savory chicken croquettes, duck cakes, tiny mussels redolent with garlic butter and parsley, and mushroom caps filled with pâté. There’s nothing else quite like this spot in Los Angeles, and it’s a fine place to while away a Westwood evening.
