A&R Bar-B-Que Restaurant Review:
Tourists seeking an authentic Memphis experience flock to Graceland and then fill up on ribs at A&R Bar-B-Que, located about four miles down the street from Elvis’ mansion. The “A” and “R” in the name reference founders Andrew and Rose Pollard, who opened the place as a fast-food take-out spot in 1983. It grew to offer indoor dining. The atmosphere is casual, and the food is simple and comforting. Saucy pork ribs are served by the rack or stuffed with coleslaw between thick slices of white bread. The large menu also features barbecue nachos, barbecue salad, Polish or smoked sausages, double meat burgers, and fresh, homemade beef tamales. Desserts are classic Southern peach cobblers, fried pies or slices of iced cake. There’s a kids’ menu, too, with smaller portions. This location doesn’t serve beer, but you will find bottled domestic brews at A&R’s other outpost at 3721 Hickory Hill Rd., 901-365-9777.
