Restaurant Soleil Restaurant Review:
Located inside the Westin Palo Alto, Soleil is popular with the computer crowd. They relax in an atmosphere that includes an exhibition kitchen with a wood-burning rotisserie and a chef's counter for 12 diners. On the breakfast menu, there's sour-cherry clafouti, hot Irish oatmeal and a wonderful smoked salmon platter. The restaurant is known for such items as its delicate veal sweetbreads and wild mushroom strudel napped with a port wine sauce. Also, try the classic Caesar with warm polenta croutons and the oysters on the half-shell, which glisten with natural juices and a mild mignonette sauce. As for entrées, baby chicken meat falls from the bone, while a juicy New York steak is paired with herbed potatoes. Vegetarian patrons should enjoy a roasted beet tortellini in a fennel-thyme broth. The desserts are luxurious with a coconut-encrusted chèvre cheesecake heading our list of favorites. The wine list pairs well with the menu.
