THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Riviera Grill Restaurant Review:
When chef-owner John Sheely opened his place in a Westside strip center and then a Westside hotel, locals were tempted to shrug it off as another wannabe in a sea of been there, done that. But when fellow restaurateur and neighbor Michael Cordua of the famed Churrasco's touted the wonders of Sheely's Mediterranean menu, people listened. Cordua's favorite dish, the pepper-dusted Chilean sea bass, became the people's choice, too. Now moved again to the refurbished Sam Houston Hotel downtown, the Riviera Grill is even more happening. Start with the pan-seared Prince Edward Island mussels with andouille sausage, garlic and tomato; or try the katafi-wrapped shrimp, with cucumbers, crisp vegetable salad and lemon citronette. The grilled pork chop saddles up next to apple-bacon slaw, mashed potatoes and Stilton cheese, while the roasted lamb loin sits atop crisp polenta with baby spinach and goat cheese.
