Colorful Belmont Shore restaurant delivers serious seafood in a breezy atmosphere.
Roe Seafood Restaurant Review:
Socked away in the far east end of Long Beach’s Belmont Shore, this open, airy venue feels protected from the busy bustle that defines this compact part of town. Brightly hued nautical murals, light earth tones and the presence of an indoor tree anchor a comfortable, easygoing atmosphere where pretense finds no quarter. The setting juxtaposes rather well with the serious seafood dishes, which are built with artistic flair and intriguing flavor composition. Start your meal with a plate of yellowfin “taquitos” draped in eel sauce or the beautifully presented salmon tartare with caviar, lemon cream cheese and corn blini. Advanced main courses like the head-on herb brined sea bream with salsa verde share menu space with kicked-up takes on classic items such as porcini mushroom-dusted scallops with sesame spätzle. A vast raw bar selection with shellfish, sashimi and, of course, roe presents ideal treats to enjoy with a glass of wine, a craft beer or a well-composed cocktail. On weekends, the restaurant serves up seafood-centric brunch fare including the shrimp, sausage and posole-loaded “hangover stew.”
