Rojo Cocina Mexicana & Cantina Restaurant Review:
Aiming to appeal to a wide audience, Rojo Cocina Mexicana & Cantina presents décor that suggests Mexican heritage without overplaying the typical iconography. The kitchen offers classics from the Mexican-American repertoire. Thin, crisp house-made chips come with a tomato-based salsa that has a bit of kick; queso is thick and rich. Presented in a small molcajete, the made-to-order guacamole is chunky but not overdosed with extraneous ingredients, just a bit of tomato, chopped onion and cilantro. First-rate flautas verdes come two to an order paired with salsa verde, beans and rice. Chef specials and fajitas merit attention. Huevos rancheros supposedly come with sunnyside up eggs, but ours were overcooked. Tacos and burritos are served in substantial portions. For dessert, try the flan or the churros. There's a good beer list, but the frozen margaritas are worthy.
