Royal Ocean Terrace Restaurant Restaurant Review:
Open-air dining and a view of Ka’anapali beach are part of the island casual atmosphere, with lauhala mat walls in the main room and outdoor seating by the pool. Service is just as friendly and laid back. In the morning, order your coffee or tea first before heading to the breakfast buffet. The selection is large and satisfying, with the usual offerings of baked goods and hot foods such as scrambled eggs, corned beef hash, french toast and oatmeal. Fresh fruit and a griddle station where you can get an omelet made-to-order are also available. The dinner menu offers standard island entrées like macadamia nut-crusted mahi mahi, but also includes unusual flavors such as seafood pasta with creamy garlic black bean sauce and makrut lime and mochiko-crusted scallops. We enjoy the crab-stuffed opah with ginger butter sauce and wasabi mashed potatoes. Peppercorn-crusted prime rib is also notable, as is the pupu platter, if anything for the meaty crab cakes. Save room for dessert; the Moloka’i sweet potato donuts, dusted in sugar and cinnamon and served with Tahitian vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce, are standouts.
