Rudy's Cafe Restaurant Review:
Filled with stuffed parrots and oodles of cacti, Rudy’s walks the Tex-Mex walk in Somerville's Teele Square. So it's no surprise that it talks the talk, too: tequila-soaked and taco-manic. Does it deliver? Most of the time. Sure, there are more authentic joints around --- and the ear-splitting noise level can sometimes induce a pre-tequila hangover migraine, and did we mention there's lots of tequila here? More than 50 to be exact. But let’s just say that the combination platters go down easy after a few smooth (yet exceptionally sweet) margaritas, and the price is definitely right. Start with a hearty plate of spicy taco skins laden with all things Mexican and Irish (think tomatoes, sour cream, chili and chives). There are also the usual staples like jalapeño poppers, quesadillas, buffalo wings, chips and salsa, and guacamole, but the Mexican pizza is a standout topped with enchilada sauce, beef and cheeses. Non-spice lovers can try a chicken sandwich topped with Swiss, half-pound steak burgers made with chuck beef and short rib, pulled pork or the tender baby-back ribs. Regulars return for the massive shredded El Grande beef burritos, spinach quesadillas and combination plates. Pair your meal with a prickly pear margarita, a Grand Gold on the rocks, a frozen strawberry margarita, or a flight of tequila.
