The Rum House Restaurant Review:
A corner restaurant can sometimes become the hottest spot in the neighborhood, and that is exactly what happened when The Rum House took over a busy intersection on Magazine Street. Inside, under whirring ceiling fans, and in a space framed by exposed brick walls and hardwood floors, industrial-strength margaritas and mojitos complement a selection of more than a dozen combinations of tacos, everything from jerked chicken to fried oyster to pork mole. The kitchen also turns out ribs, some quality steaks and many small-plate items, too, such as conch and sweet potato fritters. Order the fried plantains or coconut mango rice on the side, and for dessert, target the mile-high Key lime meringue pie. If the crowds are inviting, get there for happy hour on weekdays from 3 p.m.-6:30 p.m. for $3 Red Stripes and $5 rum punches, but be prepared for a mob scene that spills out on to the street.
