Russell St. BBQ Restaurant Review:
Scan Russell St.'s menu for a thousand tasty ways to expand your waistline. You'll find pimento cheese, barbecued shrimp in cream sauce, fried chicken po' boys, all manner of smoked meats, and fried chocolate pies. Don't expect to see any vegetables unless they are smothered under a mass of cheese or bacon. The star of the show is the barbecue made with meat free of antibiotics and growth hormones, and raised exclusively on vegetarian feed. Meats cover the standard gamut ranging from beef brisket and pulled pork, to turkey and ribs, with tofu tossed in to appease any lost vegetarians. The meats are all tender, but their flavors draw more from a generous topping of any or all of five varieties of hot sauce. Sides are familiar and what's expected: yams, greens, potato salad. Wash down your feast with some sweet tea. But do save a tiny corner for those fried chocolate pies. Made with high-quality dark chocolate, they are truly worth every calorie. The seating areas feature a pleasant outdoor garden plus relaxed, family-friendly surroundings indoors.
