THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Saffron Restaurant Review:
Enter Saffron and find a cozy, romantic Moroccan den complete with gold-colored walls, tile-topped tables, gauzy window sheers and soft lighting. Think Casablanca. The food is mostly as exciting; although there are some misses. We like the table bread, but try not to let that spoil the show by eating too much of it. Rich Moroccan tagines are the thing here---try the braised chicken over an aromatic saffron broth. Another authentic treat is the merouzia, tender-braised lamb shanks in a sweet cinnamon-roasted almond sauce. Grilled lamb and kefta kebobs are served with nut-laced couscous. To drink, sip mint tea, a fruit martini or the house specialty---a frozen pomegranate cocktail. Check out the belly dancers Thursday through Saturday evenings.
