When the rather mysterious Casbah folded its tents and departed, owner-chef Steven Giles and his mates turned the spot into an inviting place. Giles, who is a Brit himself, defines his impressive menu as Euro-American with an English twist---but don’t let that last bit scare you. This cuisine bears no resemblance to traditional pub food. It’s sophisticated, inventive and delicious. Different influences weave their way throughout each menu (they change seasonally), but the foundation is definitely-and delightfully-English. Start on an eclectic note with steamed Asian duck dumplings or crispy sweet corn spoon bread or Hudson Valley foie gras. Entrées include roast rack of lamb, poached Dover sole and a daily vegetarian special. A tasting menu is also available. The wine list is impressive, to say the least. Never mind the rather nondescript corner a block off State. It's what's inside that counts.
