Sampan Chinese Cuisine Restaurant Review:
When you're in the mood for Chinese but don't feel like cruising too far from the freeway (I-80), Sampan is your choice by default. Neither overwhelming nor underwhelming, this darkly lit café serves beer and wine and features Americanized Cantonese and Szechuan dishes, which means they don't have a lot of spice or flair. For example, the hot-and-sour soup is more like sweet beef broth with some floating tofu and bamboo strips for texture. The meats are okay but the veggies are crispy and colorful. In fact, vegetarians put this on their A list; the restaurant makes some of the best vegetable lo mein in town. Sampan fills you up and the speedy service gets you out in time for a movie or early evening. FYI: Delivery is available but slow.
