Signature Cafe Restaurant Review:
Years ago, this little storefront was a typical grocery store and meat market set within a residential neighborhood. Now, the charming spot with window boxes out front is a friendly bistro. Cozy, inviting and personal, it feels like family---from the waitress rhapsodizing about the chipotle-maple salad dressing to the occasional appearance by chef and owner Nathalie Johnson who peeks her head out of the kitchen to see how everyone is doing. We love to lunch here on one of the fresh salads. The Caesar is always good, but we lean towards the mixed greens with blue cheese and dried cranberries since it comes with that aforementioned maple-chipotle dressing. During dinner, we’re partial to comfort food fare like the mashed potatoes served with Grandma Larson’s Swedish-style, house-made pot roast or lemon-thyme chicken that’s always moist and fragrant. We’ve also not been disappointed with the Parisian crêpes, a combo of ham and melt-y Gruyère that’s accompanied by garlicky, baked white beans. Regardless of whether we’re here for lunch or dinner, though, we never skip dessert, which varies from a rich, warm chocolate number to a dense marzipan cheesecake.
