Skipper's Smokehouse Restaurant Review:
This is the most casual of casual restaurants, and if you're seeking out Skipper's for the first time, just roll down the car windows and follow the sound of music. No shirts, no shoes --- no problem! Skipper's brings Gilligan's Island-style stateside with its ramshackle atmosphere and fresh, classic seafood kicked up a notch with Captain Tom's homemade Scorch Bonnet sauce. Focusing on Floribbean cuisine with Cajun influences, the restaurant serves up specialties like black bean gator chili, farm-raised catfish, crab claws, mudbugs (Louisiana crawfish), and fresh catches from mahi mahi and grouper (when in season) to mullet. This is also one of the few venues where you can sample gator tail. There are standards, too: appetizers of ‘Shrooms and conch fritters, and an entrée of barbecue ribs, black beans and yellow rice and steamed vegetables. Food is prepared to order: grilled, fried (in peanut oil), steamed, smoked, sautéed or raw. Skipper's features some of the best local, regional and international bands, usually Wednesdays through Sundays.
