Smoke Modern Barbeque Restaurant Review:
The Glenwood Springs branch of a popular Basalt barbecue joint doesn’t aim to fix what isn’t broken, meaning that it closely copies the original in terms of both citified ambience and down-home menu. Here, too, the macaroni and cheese is the stuff of adult fantasies --- assuming the child in you isn't averse to the iconic bowl of elbow noodles arriving all gussied up with house-made shrimp sausage and bacon. Nor should you pass up the broiled oysters, fresh corn muffins slathered with cane-syrup butter, or deviled eggs. But that’s just for starters. If you show up with a gaggle of starving friends, you can load up your table with a smorgasbord of bona-fide Southern staples --- pulled pork, beef brisket, garlic-rubbed chicken, smoked prime rib, cornmeal-fried catfish --- and stuff yourself silly. Look for specials as well, be it Cajun-rubbed rib-eye or andouille-crusted striped bass. And if you’re too full for banana pudding afterward, come back for brunch and get the bananas Foster french toast instead, or just knock back another shot of bourbon until the old belly’s ready to go again.
