Founded by Sonny and Lucille Tillman in 1968 as a neighborhood gathering spot, this chain offers tasty and reliable barbecue including some varieties not commonly found roasting on commercial wood fires --- such as smoked turkey. The meat is slow-smoked over hardwood fires, and you can tell visually --- as well as by taste --- as the process gives the meat a reddish tone. The brisket is one of the most popular options. Side dishes include coleslaw, barbecue beans and corn on the cob. In true Southern style, there are ample pitchers of freshly brewed iced tea and sodas.
