THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Sooze Wine Bar Cafe Restaurant Review:
This charming café fronts an old industrial mill in a pocketbook-size space resembling an indie coffee hangout. Seating seems geared toward hospitably squeezing you in, and paintings du jour fill up the rest of the blank space that’s not windows. A trim menu skews toward apps, presumably to encourage wine experimentation; about 50 crafty selections can be sampled in three- or six-ounce(ish) pours. Dishes range from plain-and-simple to dashing. Cases in point: lightly dressed spinach with beets and goat cheese, versus sea scallops with pear strands, bacon and sweet port reduction on a flattened butternut squash ravioli disk. Don’t underestimate the warm chocolate chip cookies for dessert. Service comes casual though knowledgeable and earnest. It’s a tad pricey, but perhaps that’s the cost of preserving this neighborhood sleeper.
