THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED South Austin Grill Restaurant Review:
Texans know a thing or two about good flavorful foods, and the Austin Grill chefs bring the wide, open flavors of Texas to the Washington area. In its five locations, the Texas décor may vary slightly in its funkyness---that is, its out west ambience and trinkets---but you can count on the menu to remain the same. For some of us, their chili---a bowl of simmered, shredded beef with ground ancho and chipotle chilies---is the best in town. It's fire-breathing hot and served with four fresh, flour tortillas. But terrific chili is only one of the many delights on this restaurant's menu: fajitas, enchiladas, burritos, carnitas, and quesadillas, plus a selection of gluten-free eats, all make dynamic meals here. Check the menu's new seasonal specialties section, too, where you might find lamb chops with pineapple-chipotle glaze. If you need to quench your thirst with all this hot, spicy food, select a cooling tequila drink---there are several interesting margaritas---or a chilled brew. In fact, their fresh lime margarita is a signature item. Then join in with the hilarity. Note: Now hoteheads can buy the grill's famous Weed Killer Hot Sauce and other retail items for use at home.
