THIS RESTAURANT IS NOW A PRIVATE EVENT SPACE Spencer's Restaurant Review:
Downtown Houston has its fair share of steakhouses, but in Texas there is always room for one more. With a modern, expansive dining room glittering with glass, fancy well-stocked wine closets and sophisticated hues of sand and khaki, Spencer's offers more than the casual name suggests. Here, your USDA Prime dry-aged steak is Nolan Ryan’s all-natural beef, cooked as ordered. The restaurant also sources local, seasonal produce, Gulf Coast seafood and even offers Texas-made bottled water. The enormous baked potato is spiffed up with crisp bacon and blue cheese crumbles, and prepared tableside. Salads are also substantial; look for seasonal specials and a winning Caesar smacking with anchovies. An extensive but pricey wine list and desserts like the naughty fudge cake add to a special evening out.
