THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Spiazzino Cucina Italiana Restaurant Review:
While this location has seen a lot of incarnations since Val 21 closed years ago, the newest casual Italian-American eatery may just be the one to last. The big circular bar still overpowers the entrance, but is a great place to cozy up to a glass of wine and an antipasto misto platter and watch the world walk by on Valencia Street. The casual dining room is rarely filled up, which can make for a quiet dinner with easy table conversation and no long waits to be seated. The hearty zuppa de pesce loads seafood atop a whirl of spaghetti surrounded by a rich tomato broth that is sure to warm any blustery San Francisco night. Grilled fish arrives with a simple, if uninspired lemon butter sauce. Cannelloni Bolognese are stuffed with veal and doused in a home-style red sauce. Thick, spongy crusts separate the pizzas from others in the neighborhood. For dessert try the tiramisu.
