St. Brendan's Restaurant Review:
Traditional Irish fare such as corned beef, shepherd's pie, Guinness pot roast, Gaelic steak pies and County Clare meatloaf is all done well, but St. Brendan's also plates more contemporary Irish cuisine. Try the smoked salmon and goat cheese ravioli; braised short ribs; smoked, peppered duck breast; and even a Wisconsin Reuben sandwich at lunchtime. The setting conveys a deep, rich beauty, heightened by thick wool carpeting, stained glass windows, glossy dark hardwood, a wood-burning fireplace and quiet places for sitting and talking. But there's fun to be had, too, with live, mostly Irish entertainment until 2 a.m. That means there's plenty of time to try at least a few of the 15 imported beers on tap. When the weather is nice, have a drink on the outdoor patio while taking in views of the Fox River.
